This traditional Nantucket home sits on its site as a simple and coherent object in the landscape, with wrap-around porches but without the usual appendages of connected terraces. The design depends upon strong local symmetries at every turn. At the exterior the overall massing reflects an almost-symmetry that reveals classical underpinnings while sustaining a casual presence. The use of classical detailing is deliberately calibrated, with simplified forms at large scale, and increased complexity where it is effective to celebrate entry or to build a hierarchy of form at the interior.
